Narendra Modi’s three days fasting and the truth

When Modi began his high profile fasting with millions of rupees spent on tents, reception for other leaders, security wings and media, my only question is ‘why now, why was it not done in 2002 immediate after Gujarat riots?’. Yes, I can guess the answers! Here it is.

If you want to succeed in politics, you must know how to kill or control your conscience. Modi is trying to kill his guilty conscience by fasting for three days in order make him a popular choice of BJP prime minister candidate. He needs to outsmart scores of BJP chatterbox politicians who are all busy in making noises in and around Delhi. He also need to make sure that there is ‘harmony and unity’ in BJP to achieve his personal ambition including dethroning of Advani Ji.

Politicians always knows how to generalize their personal ambition to their party ambition or people’s ambition by coining with sweet words that are exciting to masses and inviting to media. While people are averse to futuristic decisions, but media is in fact looking for some strong spices and Modi would make sure that they get it. Meanwhile, BJP requiring find suitable figurehead against Rahul and it is an open secret now. Series of mistakes from Congress, especially during Anna Hazarze fasting made sure that Dr. Manmohan Singh must be retired and replaced with Rahul Ghandhi. While Rahul let the Congress and media in guessing, Modi wants to throw his towel on BJP ring. The game is on now.

Politics is a business for a particular class of people and they are all united to make sure it remains with them (only) irrespective of ideology, principles and parties. Politics is an enigma wrapped with riddles.

Modi, perhaps the best among BJP leaders with great grass root support from Gujarat. Modi had systematically removed all his BJP nemesis from Gujarat and also thumped his chief opposition Congress almost in all elections. He is now an uncrowned King of Gujarat. No other BJP Chief Ministers are having the charisma of Modi. They are all less competent and crippled with state group politics. At least for next five years, there is no one from BJP ruling states capable to challenge Modi for the prime minister candidate. Advantage to Modi.

Modi is credited with Gujarat’s growth during his rule and let me just put few points that can clear the myth of Mod’s attribution to growth.

a) During Congress rule in 1980 – 1990, the Gujarat’s growth rate was 14.8% under Madhav Singh Solanki and Amarsingh Choudhry

b) During the years 1990 – 1994 under Chimanbhai Patel the growth rate was 16.75%. He was mostly in Congress party and move to other parties too.

c) During the years 1994 – 1999 with so many changes in government, Gujarat was able to achieve between 14 – 20% growth

d) During Keshubahi Patel era between 1998 – 2002, Gujarat growth rate is 7.5%

e) During 2002 – 2010 under Modi, Gujarat growth rate is 14 – 16.25%

So, it is not just Modi, but the preceding governments also contributed well to the Gujarat growth story. In general, it must be credited to the people of Gujarat for their enterprising capability in improving the overall growth performance of Gujarat.

How about other states during the same period of Modi as Chief Minister?

Haryana is achieving an average growth rate of 18%

Andra Pradesh achieved 16% growth at the same period.

Maharashtra is doing almost 15% growths at the same period.

So, the point of difference is the propaganda of Modi which is much better than other Chief Ministers. Modi is no doubt is a better PR man than their own party bigwigs and of course Congress leaders.

Present set of BJP national leaders barring Advani are not competent enough to become Prime Minister of India. Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitely, Rajnath Singh, Gopinath Munde, Nitin Gadkari, Murli Manohar Joshi, Venkaiya Naidu, Anand Kumar, Ravi Shankar Prasad, etc are all good enough to fill cabinet berths only. Hence, the aspiration of Modi is well calculated and certainly he is going to lead BJP in future parliament elections unless Gujarat is lost to Congress in future. Modi knows that it is coming, but his challenge is to keep the flocks together till he achieves the lifetime ambition to become the Prime Minister of India.

Well… he has the quality to become the national leader of BJP, but does it enough? Will the blood stains of Gujarat carnage is that simple and irrelevant to remove? Do we need one more prime minster whose credential is built on hatreds against one particular community? Can we progress as a nation with a prime minister who dodges the judicial courts and law? Can we feel secure under a prime minister who kills people in the pretext of terrorism? Can we march to regional superpower status under a prime minister who kills innocents in encounters? Can we hand over entire administration under a prime minister who intimidates his just and sincere officers to suspension and long leave?

Let us look at his great administrative credentials during his helm as Chief Minister of Gujarat.

a) His famous utterance of Newton’s third law of motion: To every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction during Gujarat Pogrom. He also told the police machinery not to hinder Hindu mobs targeting Muslims . Refer Gujarat Citizens’ committee (S.P. Shukla I.A.S. Ex Indian Finance Secretary, K.S. Subramaniam, former DGP, Kamal Mitra Chenoy, Associate Professor at JNU, Achin Vanaik visiting Professor in JMI) report published during April 2002 in media.

b) SP Sanjeev Bhatt revelations and affidavit filed in Supreme Court asking to depose his statements on the meeting held at Modi’s home on January 27, 2002 to allow Hindus to vent their feelings for three days immediate after Godhra train carnage.

c) Justice M.H. Quadri, the Muslim judge in Gujarat high court during the riot forced to leave his official residence along with his 80 years old ailing mother to a safer place and his colleagues felt helpless on those days.

d) He transferred 27 IPS officers – all Hindus in first week of April 2002 in one shuffle because their crime was ‘acting against establishment by arresting BJP, VHP and Bajrangdal leaders and suspending subordinates charging with rioting’.

e) Ex Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee have written a letter to Modi dated June 1, 2002, mentioning his dissatisfaction in delaying the probe and issuing compensation to relatives of dead. He even questioned the DNA test conducted on relatives to receive the compensation. There are many more things mentioned in the letter and is unpublished by Modi. However the contents of the letter was received through RTI application.

f) More than 10 cases related Gujarat riot is still pending in courts.

g) Modi’s own and once trusted minister Haren Pandya murder case is still unresolved and no idea who shot and murdered him. He was removed from ministry in July 2002 and subsequently denied ticket to contest in election. It is learned from various reports that Haren Pandya gave a statement to Citizen’s committee about the meetings held at Modi’s residence immediate after Godhra train carnage

h) His own SP D.G. Vanzara and Dinesh Kumar are still in jail for eliminating Shorabuddin and his wife Kauser in an encounter.

His declare of fasting for peace, unity and harmony is something to do with his inner conscience only. He is struggling to find inner peace and harmony and unity of purpose. His heart is trenched with bloods of innocents and precarious as day progresses. He requires inner peace to make him ready for national position and is why he is trying to follow Ghandhian principles of fasting. He would receive flowers and emissaries from other corrupt leaders from all over India.

The old will die and new will forget, said Ben Curien, the first prime minister of Israel is the perfect formula for Modi to clean up his own conscience. But he must know that ‘the end does not justify the means’.

Two generations and 2G

Once Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) hurriedly left the Mosque immediate after a congregational prayer and his companions were wondering of his action. When the Prophet returned to Mosque his companions were curious to know the reasons. He told them that there was a piece of gold in his house and was disturbing his concentration level in prayers. Therefore, he went and asked his wife to disburse immediately as charity to the needy.

Stephen R. Covey, an authority on leadership emphasized the necessity of ‘principle’ centered life in his book ‘The seven habits of highly effective people’ in chapter ‘begin with the end mind’. The ‘end’ or precisely the objective of many politicians in India is not principles of public service or social service rather a ‘private service’, eventually a self service. These self servitude politicians amassed wealth after wealth and subsequently positioned their life as ‘wealth centered’ life. The money and power clout allow them to be planted on top of Indian polity without experiencing the grass root problems. These second generation politicians, especially Karunanithi’s clan members sane Stalin are absolutely privileged class.

Does anyone can explain the quality and capability of Dayanidhi Maran or A.K. Raja the proxy of Kanimozhi or numerous trombone ministers who occupy prime positions in state and central governments? These second generation politicians chose to be in politics to enjoy and safeguard their wealth. They don’t have any great passion of public service. Recently there was a news program in NDTV questioning ‘are these younger generation politicians are delivering?’ Unfortunately they are not. Either they are incompetent or deprived of right opportunities. Both the first and present generations of politicians are equally corrupted, but the first one is more insinuating than the later.

India is maturing and 2G scam is a distinctive example of progressive mindset, thanks to Supreme Court. The core issue of 2G investigations is the crafting of power for personal benefits by sheer manipulation in association with corporate. The accused politicians and corporate bosses may all walk free one day due to lack of proof or evidences. Yet the momentum is created and is responsible of Young India to keep it alive and effective. I can foresee in future that even the competency level of ministers must also be investigated, because accountability is what we need at all governance. Hope, the Lok pal bill will pave way for accountability evaluation during and after their office in governance.

Media is not exactly highlighting the effects and benefits that can be derived through 2G scam investigations; rather they are busy in mixing the spices just for the sake of increasing the TRP. Media must air credible programs highlighting positive changes out of evolving trend in Indian polity with the involvement of Supreme Court and other well wishers across the community.

Dr. Manmohan Singh’s integrity is impeccable and unquestionable. His ascendance to prime minister is one of good things that happened in Indian polity, but he is miserably failing in controlling his team. His participative management style is exactly the best suitable in modern governance but unfortunately his team is not right. One cannot delegate the power to incompetent subordinates. Instead of trying them at highest level, they must have taught at lower level with adequate guidance. The coalition politics and its intricacies have made Dr. Singh more vulnerable. The corrupted politicians and their nepotism must end right now. Instead of sending them to Tihar jail one after other at the best of Supreme Court, Dr. Singh must drop them immediately in his next cabinet reshuffle. If not they will bring him down along with them.

Games within the game – Anti corruption movement in India

Anna Hazare must be credited for his excellent initiative in bringing corruption as a primary issue of national politics past three months. He along with other civil society leaders have approached all political parties to take up the Lak Pal bill in parliament and as expected none of the political parties shows any interest forcing Anna Hazare to take the Ghandian tool fasting unto death. Yesterday’s midnight drama of Baba Ramdev’s eviction made this anti-corruption movement to hit the snags. Unfortunately for civil society and fortunately for political class the Lok Pal issues and discussions are conveniently at the hands of political masters.

Thanks to 2G spectrum, corruption reached a new peak and every Indian must be ashamed of. But how long? We, the common people are known for forgetting one issue after another and political masters are known for creating one after other. The vicious cycles do not stop at all and we are immune to scams and money lootings.

Corruption mechanism is another effective parallel system that is running much better than genuine system to solve citizen’s problems. The political and administrative nexus in India is at its best now and helps each other. The unwritten rules of corruption mechanism and methodology are promptly followed at every government offices; in fact the genuine system is buried long before. Every citizen who approaches the government servants is considered and treated as a milking cow. Nothing moves in government offices without money.

Well, the issue here is the ‘means and methods’ of anti-corruption movement. The cause is excellent and is necessary, but means and methods are getting hijacked or twisted for political benefits by every political, social and communal organization. I have strong feeling that either Anna considerably failed in his home work or his advisors are failing him or he doesn’t have enough resources to outsmart the political maneuvers around him.

Anna’s desire in following Ghandian principles, though highly applauded, but certainly he is not having the ‘will power’ of Ghandhi. As we read in the history, Mahathma Ghandhi brought the British and early Indian governments at its knee by his fasting and Satyagraha. It is not his mere action of fasting, but his mental and spiritual approach has brought the governments to listen and agree with him. He was an extraordinary human and his mental strength is incomprehensive to many contemporary political leaders. His cause and means are aligned well and never allows derailing for any intimidation, because he does not want anything for himself.

Unfortunately, Anna allowed his anti- corruption movement to be manipulated by all political parties including communal organizations. I wonder how come he allows the religious organizations or personalities to be part of the movement knowing the hypocritical history of such personalities.

Baba Ramdev is one such personality utilized this opportunity to drive his ambition and well supported by RSS. RSS thought that his rise in anti-corruption movement would certainly help to hide certain perennial issues of other Sadus in India in connection with series of bomb blast cases and investigation in courts. RSS and their parivars are recently crippled with lots of questions and ideally expecting this anti-corruption movement to give some space political regrouping. Yet, my perception needs to be seen within the context of Congress reactions and government actions. The eviction of Baba Ramdev from his fasting forces many questions which are still unanswered by both government and Baba’s camp. He thunders as a champion while quietly jumped from the stage is not auguring well for his cause or indicating something hidden. It would be a different story if he was allowed himself to be arrested.

His agreement with government as exposed by Minister Kapil Sibal, Baba’s over reach than his capacity to take larger issues than corruption are all need to be clarified by Baba himself. Eventually, he jeopardized the entire anti-corruption movement and stole the limelight that he was looking for. Lok Pal discussions, panel members, live broadcast of their discussions, either to include the PM and Supreme Court Chief Justice or not, does BJP toeing Baba Ramdev or failed to take the lead role, civil society’s capability and role play are all becoming irreconcilable among the various stake holders of the movement and government.

Sadly, the anti-corruption movement is now heading towards moral corruption and Anna Hazare will be left alone to nurse his wounds. Once again the political masters are looks to be in favourite position to escape from great anti-corruption momentum. I will be happy if the future proves me wrong!

Sleep – a sensational state of mind in darkness

‘Sleep’ is the essential part of any living beings on this earth. Everything sleeps at a particular time and or period and is inbuilt in biological programs of body in congruent with organic form of life. Plants, trees, insects, worms, animals and mankind all are having this quality rather habit of ‘sleep’ and consumes almost one quarter of their life in ‘sleeping’ status. Ironically, mankind does not give enough attention and care to the status of ‘sleeping’ in other word the ‘unconscious nature or state’ of life. Instead we give as much as importance to ‘awaken or conscious nature or state’ of life. Since it is a natural occurrence and effected due to the tiredness of nerves and muscles, we human beings leave this entire stage to the natural process and mystery. In fact, both status of life plays vital role in refurbishing the human energy, yet mankind simply not interested or become insignificant to the dark affairs of life. Life is not naturally imbalanced, but unnaturally, due to excessive delirious in ‘awakened state’ for obvious ‘dark’ reasons.

Sleeping is a natural periodic suspension of consciousness in which the power of body is restored. However, the clear definition of sleep and functioning of body parts during this suspended consciousness state are not clear yet. People who have lack of sleep get into irritation, forgetful, uncoordinated, hallucinatory and even psychotic. Sleep disorder may lead to rare fatal familial insomnia and is untreatable. Insomnia may lead to hallucination and eventually to death. The truth is that every one of us experiences mild insomnia once in our life. In human beings sleep is linked with hormone levels and specific brain electrical activity, including delta waves quiet different from the brain’s awakening activity.

Brain usually generates different kind of waves such as alpha, beta, gamma, theta and delta waves. Alpha waves are generated during awaken state of mind along with other waves depends on brain’s activity. However, when the brain is in deep sleep or completely unconscious level, delta waves are active which are slowest in frequency range between 1-4 hertz. Delta waves are particularly beneficial for brain performance. Deep sleep helps the brain to release more delta waves that has numerous benefits including better intuition connectivity and deep spirituality. It also releases anti aging hormones that reduces the release of Cortisol cells which are responsible for stress and quicker aging. In plain terms the mind and muscles are getting repaired while we have deep sleep. Many sleep experts recommend average eight hours sleep to have better mental alertness and avoid physical sore and tension.

Caffeine, tobacco and alcohol disturb the sleep a lot and cause frequent awakenings at night. Alcohol is one of the worst agents that will make snoring even terrible. Snoring is not the indication of deep sleep as many believes, but indication of depression or related sleep disorders such as narcolepsy and central nervous system hyper-somnolence. However, in most cases snoring happens due to throat and windpipe congestions. A study from German clinic says that snoring make the person silly. Snoring persons have performed worse in intelligence test. An American study says that snoring kills brain cells responsible for intelligence by depriving the body oxygen. In fact, snoring can be stop or controlled by doing a small surgery at throat by removing the tissue.

In addition to above reasons many of us failed to realize a major habit of us for disturbed sleep that occurs in our daily life. Watching movies, emotional serials and obscene scenes at early part of night or prior to sleep causes deep conscious and unconscious emotional conflicts.  Moverover is responsible for the hyper subconscious level during sleep which will certainly spoils a good night sleep.

Scientists are classifying the sleep into five different stages.

Stage 1: It’s a dozing stage indicating the mental and physical tiredness that forces to take rest.

Stage 2: Light sleep stage in which the body rests and the circulation of blood gradually reduced to the vital organs and other parts of the body including brain.

Stage 3: It is a mixture of light and deep sleep, in which the sleeping person can hear or observe certain sounds but usually non responsive

Stage 4: It is a deep sleep stage and most essential part of sleep. Generally the sleeping individual does not understand anything that is happening around him unless a huge sound or disturbance occurs. The research analysis says that the mechanical and physical functions of the body are repaired during this stage.

Stage 5: It is a dreaming sleep or REM (Rapid Eye Movement). The eye movements during dream correspond with dream plot lines. The remainder of the body paralyzed during REM sleep, which prevent us from physically acting on our dreams. The research says that REM sleep repair mental functions of the body, hence the dreams are the indication of the repair of the brain. It does not mean that the dreams are only indication of active brain and functioning.

The delta waves are active during the fourth and fifth stages of sleep can be experienced through dreams. Most of the dreams are long or seems to be longer than the actual time span due to the heavy release of delta waves with the slowest speed of 1-4 hertz. There is an interesting relativity between the delta mental waves that does not match the usual time speed. The slowest delta mental waves actually help the dreams against the time speed during unconscious stage of mind and are the reason for long dreams and sometimes tiring. There are many research activities happening to uncover the relativity between the delta waves and the dreams.

A four year old child spends average of three to four hours in dreaming per night. The duration of dream reduces to roughly between 100 to 120 minutes per night after 10 years old.

Ancient civilizations believe that dreams are bridge between mankind and supernatural or God or induced by language of evils and demons. Soothsayers believe that dreams could foretell one’s future. In fact, mankind is always curious to know what is ahead of us and therefore they consider dreams have major role in prophetic power of attributing and astrological predictions.

Psychoanalysts say that they have certain method to diagnose the troubles of individuals by asking and recording their dreams. Further, they say that dreams reveal our secret wishes, fears, loves and hatreds. In dreams we become our true self and identify us with hidden dual character is what modern psychiatric confirms.

Everyone dreams and is a matter of remembering them. Mostly we are unable to reconstruct our dreams and nevertheless dreams are integral part of life. Dreams fulfill our functions, wishes, inspire us and release inhibitions. Dream also releases our accumulated unhealthy emotions, hide the meanings in symbols and take us back to carefree childhood life. Dreams may have practical values and repeated dreams are indication of root conflicts in our personality or related to unresolved issues in life. Associating famous persons in dreams might have the indication of deep rooted inferiority complex.

I have taken another interesting rout to study the ‘sleep’ in religious context from Holy Quran.

In Holy Quran, chapter 78, verse 9 ‘And made your sleep for rest’ meaning sleeping is essential part of life and the scientific research suggests that a sound sleep is highly refreshing by repairing the mental and physical part of body. It is a natural cause programmed in body and mind by the Creator to refresh the physical and mental conditions of mankind.

In chapter 30, verse 23, Allah says “It is Allah that takes the souls (of men) at death; and those that die not (He takes) during their sleep; those on who He has passed the decree of death He keeps back (from returning to life) but the rest He sends (to their bodies) for a term appointed. Verily in this are Signs for those who reflect”.

The interesting revelation of ‘He keeps back’ has certain meanings denoting the migration of souls to an unknown destination or space. The Almighty claims that He retains all souls with Him and to those He passed the decree of death will be prevented from going back.

In a tradition (Hadith) from Prophet Mohamed (PBUH), related by Abdullah Bin Abi Qataba, mentioned in Sahih Bukhari that “during a travel when everybody got to sleep and Bilal have said prophet Mohammed (PBUH) that he will not sleep and responsible to wake them for Fajr (morning) prayer. But he also got to sleep and unable to wake up for Adhan (call for prayer). Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) have wake and found the sun is on its edge. So he wake up Bilal and asked him what happened to his statement? Bilal replied that I have never slept like this one. The beloved Prophet said it is Allah captured your soul and He released when he wishes”.

The question is that are we experiencing a temporary death during our sleep? Is sleep twin brother of death? I will leave this question to readers to explore the answer. Nevertheless, sleep is an indication and reminder to mankind that one day we need to permanently sleep upon terminating our connection with this universe. One can be a believer of God or atheist, but experiencing the unconscious nature of life at every night in which we have no control on our mind and body. We are experiencing a phenomenal miracle of life at every night with little or no attention to it. It is necessary for every individual to give equal attention to ‘sleep’ an important state of life because living beings are naturally balanced.

Pakistan, hard truth and the future

Pakistan once again proved to the world that they are failing as a nation. The recent surgical operation by US army in eliminating Osama Bin Laden, perhaps an outrageous action against the sovereignty of Pakistan is a clear example of how Pakistan is administrating themselves. The country is governed by three command system and each one believes that they are superior to others. The civilian head of the nation, the president is simply not in control of other two strong establishments Army and ISI. Though constitutionally the president is supreme commander of the nation, invariably the other two establishments always ignore the president and do what they want. These three command systems with three different objectives not only destroying Pakistan and in fact responsible for the region’s persisting problems.

Osama’s family was living in Pakistan for the past six years itself a proof that there is a proper network system is functioning or supporting him. Osama was not a coward like Saddam who was dusted out of a bunker. Osama had comfortable life in proper living circumstances under the supervision of one or more of Pakistan command system! I personally cannot believe that Osama’s existence in Pakistan without the knowledge of any of these three command system. How effective he was and kind of authority he wields on Al Qaeda is not a matter now. What is puzzling is the Pakistan’s reaction after his death. The contradicting statements from president, prime minister and complete silence from army creates ambiguity and even panic among neighbors especially India.

Was Osama kept under dark by Pakistan’s one or more commanding system for a better bargain in future? Was Pakistan capable enough to hide him from CIA? Does CIA actually not strong enough to penetrate the Pakistan’s terrorist network support system? Does one or more commanding system lured Osama to Pakistan in recent days to handover to USA? Or is there any black sheep in Pakistan military or ISI who blows the whistle to CIA about Osama’s compound? Can USA able to do 40 minutes surgical operation without the support of Pakistan Army or ISI or the black sheep within the army? Above all who is in control of nuclear weapons?

There are numerous questions and no answers. The truth is that Pakistan is scrambling after Osama’s death. Their statements are as porous as in Pakistan’s north eastern border. Probably the north eastern border may not be a big issue now, whereas the danger is in Islamabad and entire Pakistan. Pakistan is sheltering lots of unwanted and terrorist elements from all over the world. The border between the religious leaders and fanatic elements within Pakistan seems to be blurring or at least to the world. They allow these elements to thrive for a handsome compensation pocketed by individuals. Pakistan is living under constant threat from within and outside and their national vision is nothing but how to tame India. They fool themselves with so called Indian hegemony, but unable to understand their own internal conflicts that are more dangerous than external. They are not only harming themselves, but also pulling down their neighbors including India to destruction level. The civilian heads of the country is proving to be weak and their efficiency level is negative. Military is no longer respecting the politicians or political leaders and no explanation is required.

Is Pakistan’s present situation good or bad for world and especially to USA and India? The answer would be bad even for Pakistan. Pakistan is heading towards a military rule. USA will press for a military head and is safer for next decade, especially to USA. The military rule would also protect Pakistan’s vulnerability against ever increasing poverty and ailing economic system. The military rule will unify the three commanding system under one and is advantage to USA to control the region. USA cannot simply pull out from Afghanistan while its neighbor is the breeding ground for terrorism. USA must seriously thinking about Pakistan than Afghanistan and Taleban. Pakistan can still maneuver with Taleban for its benefits. Taleban can overrun Afghanistan if Pakistan provides the logistics support and therefore the control of Pakistan is vital for USA. All permutations lead to yet another military rule in Pakistan with blessings from USA. In fact, a small gift to Pakistan military leader or leaders in aiding USA to eliminate Osama forever.

Alternatively, Pakistan is living under aids, especially from USA. Pakistan serves the interest of USA and cannot anger their master at any cost. Hence, the right and viable option for Pakistan is to dump all these issues with a military coup. A military coup will erase all odd issues and give fresh look at Pakistan’s importance in this region. Finally, the military leaders would find it more comfortable in dealing with USA and India than allowing Zardaris and Nawazs.

A change is happening within Pakistan military establishments and their attitude towards their political leaders and Osama death is a perfect catalyst to accelerate the change. Change is inevitable and the question is how far the change can help or disturb India. India needs to work on various scenarios to arrive at a right platform to face their own problems at Pakistan border and Kashmir separation issue. The one scenario would be looking at the basic tenants of Pakistan through alternative perspective of India as its big brother, not as an enemy. Pakistan will have to accept India as its big brother who can still love the younger brother though he seceded for reasons full of illusion.

The creation of Pakistan for Muslims in aftermath of British exit in subcontinent is still stands as a monumental blender, at least to me and need to be corrected. It cannot be corrected without the effective participation of India in Pakistan’s future. India requires working with likeminded countries to correct this mistake. Above all, India needs to work with Pakistan’s civil society to correct the historical mistake. India requires reaching across the civil society of Pakistan as those sane voices need to be heard with positive mindset.

America should take India as its region’s prime partner prior to their withdrawal from Afghanistan. USA cannot just depend and waste their investments on Pakistan anymore even on military rule. India can play a constructive role in reconstructing the region including Pakistan and Afghanistan. Indian leadership must look at an alternative approach of isolating Pakistan’s leadership including military heads. Cultivating Pakistan’s civil society towards India by placing the trust on them and allowing them to reciprocate would bridge the gap between people of India and Pakistan. Our shared values and history will help to formulate a strong civil society of both countries which will allow the new leaderships to prosper and manage Pakistan as a good neighbor. India too require to invest in Pakistan in positive manner.

If not, Pakistan needs to face numerous surgical operations from USA. Pakistan had enough of them and simply need to live a decent life along with international community, because the ordinary citizens of Pakistan deserve peace and progress.

Thank God for thankless job

This poem was written when I strep down as Chairman of IISJ.  In fact, these reflections may suit and are common to any public and social activists.

Passion of education brought me to the spot
Does it worth? Deliberated a lot
Hesitation of angels, an invitation to devils
Service to society is a devotion to God
Accept the challenges and unveil the courage
Common cause, gave me the heart
Conviction brought me to the convention
Commitments enthrall the motion

‘Herd’ I am not part of it, because I ‘think’
Reaching the bottom is the reverence of clarity
Finding the root cause is the veneration of my serenity
Solution is not an illusion, rather is my efficacy
Simplicity is my method, sincerity is my weapon
Honestly is my domain, patience is my strength
Adding value is my strength, avoiding glory is my satisfaction
Led them from front, Chairs don’t give cheers

Yesterday’s intelligence failing in reality
Today’s problems rattling the past cleverness
Tomorrow’s vision – may not be the dominance, but
Where is today’s intelligence?
Society is a kitchen, country is a lab
All are chefs and technicians

Convenience distances the minds
Bodies were sprawling around, when
The souls were searching else; day after day its
Conference of bodies, not the convergence of mind
Stage is permanent, actors are temporary
Performance matters, life goes on
Fore run to a future and a fabulous experience
Yet another example to erase the expectations
Thank God for the thankless job

Games within the game

‘To go fast one need to go alone and to go far, go together' is an African proverb. Egyptian ousted President Mubarak seems to know it well - by choosing to go fast in last 29 years amassing the wealth and protect his power. The military rulers and dictators taught the people that ‘revolution is the only method to remove a tyranny or to change the governing system' and inevitably they themselves fell victims to their own system. Egypt is the latest example. The impact of Egyptian revolution is much more than Tunisia's Jasmine revolution in early 2011. Egyptians not only threw out the champion of Arab, the strong man of Egypt Mr. Hosni Mubarak, but also shook up the world. The reverberations are consequential at least to tyrannies around Egypt but it’s interesting to watch how the other regimes are responding to it.

Middle East is a rich, but poor block of the world - by that I mean, Middle East is rich in resources, but poor in prosperity. Middle East requires stability in peace, but peace alone cannot bring prosperity. Peace is the precondition to prosperity followed with the cultivation of amenable governing system and accountability culture in all level. Egypt being a part of the Middle East positioned it as a ‘Chief facilitator' of various policies that fit in the region's peace, but not prosperity. They billed and received payments regularly, in other word, aids from USA and GCC countries but did not properly utilize it to develop the country's economy. Egypt failed miserably to benefit from the position of Chief facilitator because of the system. The ruling system in Egypt limited with a few influential and powerful people and we all know the objectives of such powerful people. The system allowed siphoning the major share of payments to their personal coffers. Rulers might have thought the billing is to take care of peace treaties only and let the people to mend their own ways to prosperity.

The new generation, unlike the old with penchant patience, is growing with restless attitude and approach. In ever widening competitive market and living circumstances, the majority, in other word the ‘common people' are completely sidelined or failing themselves. Intelligent and qualified people know their road well and will not wait for government initiations, but these common ordinary mass require government initiation and protection in building their life supports. They expect support and opportunities from government and their demand is a genuine one. How long can these leaders ignore this common, but powerful majority?

Egyptians might have succeeded in their goal of removing a corrupt leader and even will change the governing system, but the Middle East is not going to be the same. A new Middle East is in the making. It is not an Islamic awakening as pronounced by the Iran President. It is simply, Arab awakening. Yes, the fall of Mubarak is the beginning of change. The change is not about the rulers only, but about the perception of Arabs at large and future demands. The change will expose the different connotation of the rugged minds of stereotype western media about Arabs. The change will also expose the pseudo liberals' right across the world. The change will convey that Arabs are no less inferior than any other races and they are very much part of global progress and prosperity.

Yet, the significant change is the approach from Uncle Sam. Bush invested in billions to remove Saddam in the name of democracy and created business and trade opportunities to his country. Obama have invested only his time with strict instruction to Egypt military to keep the guns silent. Ever since the military refused to open the arms, Mubarak understood the 'end' and his desperate attempt was to save his kith and kin including his wealth. Obama's approach created constant doubt in the minds of Arab rulers and most importantly, the Israel government. Israel must find its bearing to work on its own towards peaceful existence in the Middle East. They cannot continue the language of state violence in the name of security.

Israel never lost any opportunity to present millions of case studies on Arabs to brand them as most primitive race and will never co-exist with others, mainly Israelis. Israel portrayed them as the advanced nation looking for co-existence with the Middle Eastern Muslim nations while using all kind of suppressions against poor Palestinian cousins. Every western country looks at Arabs through Israel eyes and allows Israel the license to kill Palestinians in the name of security. All the myth about Arab brutality against Israel is becoming a fairy tale now and Israel is feeling the real heat of Egyptian revolution. It is time for Israel to stop demonizing Arabs and need to agree to the solution of allowing Palestinian to run the country on their own as early as possible. Israel need to talk with Arab leaders and cannot sit behind Uncle Sam, since USA is determined to shed the extra baggage of Israel from their existing burden. Arab leaders have great opportunity to take up this Palestinian cause with sincere approach, which can save their regime and allow the Arabs to retain their pride apart from subsequent reforms in respective countries.

The most notable and historical fact is that Egyptian opposition played a clever role by keeping their figureheads under the carpet and let the ordinary mass to lead the revolution. They know that Mubarak will use the opposition leaders as an excuse to manure both internal and external forces. He always threatened the West using the Islamists as the disaster in waiting. This time, none of those outlawed opposition leaders minced any words in public, where as they were busy in orchestrating Tahrir Symphony in tandem. Egypt's opposition and military understood the language of Obama and pressed towards regime change. Military inaction against ordinary people, in fact they did the right thing, made Mubarak to write his own conclusion and all he needed was a couple of weeks to organize his exit that he did promptly on February 11, 2011. Rest is not history, but a perfect boiling pot that is spiraling in neighboring countries. While Yemen, Algeria, Libya and poor Bahrain are experiencing unrest, one can wonder why Bahrain is pulled into this conflict as they are reasonably doing well considering their size and resources.

Arabs are normally content with what they have, least bothered of their freedom and often conditioned to live with what is ordained mainly due to the religion and culture. The truth is that the world is always not kind enough with Arabs and seldom understood the ground reality. Arabs love freedom but not the western brand of freedom. Arabs like to be relaxed, but not ready to forget or forgive tyrannies. Arabs talk more, but articulate and meaningful. Arabs take their own time to decide, but once decided they won't change and this is what happened ever since they conquered two third of the world and now in Tahrir Square in Cairo.

The influential Arab leader King Abdullah needs to take the lead role in shaping this new development to peace and prosperity. His image as reformer is well established including his love for establishing various educational projects, economic cities and allocating major budgets for education and infra-structure developments for Saudi citizens. The world class King Abdullah University for Science and Technology is another example of his quest for knowledge. Proactive approach in reaching out to various sections of people and putting the reforms on fast track will stabilize the situation towards the interest of larger Arab perspective and ultimately end the region's major problem of Palestine and Israel settlements. The time and situation is ripe and wise leaders like Abdullah should not let this to be hijacked by vested interests.
